Keynote Speaker:
Mr. Steve Scheibner, American Airlines pilot originally scheduled to be the First Officer on Flight 11, the first plane to hit the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. (Check out Steve’s amazing YouTube video here!)
In addition to telling his amazing story, Mr. Scheibner will also share elements from his “Character Matters” series, which emphasizes virtues such as honesty, responsibility, love, compassion and commitment.
A book titled, ” In My Seat: A Pilots Story from Sept 10th - 11th” , also recounts the events leading up to Flight 11 and the subsequent death of Tom McGuinness in the seat that should have been filled by Steve Scheibner. (His book will be on hand for purchase and signing at the Torch Award’s luncheon.)

What are the Torch Awards?
The Torch Awards are presented to local businesses that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to leadership, their communities and an organizational commitment to ethical practices. The Tri-State Better Business Bureau developed this program, believing these businesses deserve the attention of our local community.

Who is Eligible?
A maximum of four Torch Awards are presented to local Accredited Businesses within our 18-county service area. Accredited businesses must be in good standing with the BBB and wait at least one year after receiving a Torch Award to apply again. Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday, October 12th at the Tri-State BBB office located at 3101 N. Green River Rd., Suite 410 Evansville, IN 47715.

We at the Tri-State BBB believe that each company is unique and that their policies and approach will differ, in applying for the Torch Award, however to assist in the process, we have provided examples and excerpts from past submissions that may be helpful. You may also contact us via email, phone, or attend one of our open house sessions for any Torch related questions you may have. (Open House dates to be determined soon.)
